Why website authority scores disagree

An authority score is a model, not a universal measurement.

Why this matters

Two SEO products can inspect the same website and return different ratings because they use different indexes, weighting and confidence rules. A crawler that sees only your homepage may find a clear title, clean headings and internal links. A backlink provider might instead emphasize the number and quality of independent sites referring to you. Neither output should be confused with a search engine ranking.

Example and interpretation

Compare like with like: use the same tool, the same version and similar crawl settings when tracking changes. Document which categories are directly observed and which rely on third-party data. When evaluating a competitor, study the category breakdown rather than declaring one company more reputable because its score is higher.

What to do next

Audit your top landing page, the pages linked from it and your contact information. Then repeat the scan after making one substantive change. A stable, explained score is more useful than a dramatic number with no supporting evidence.
