Choose the right competitors
Your business competitors are not always your search competitors. A useful comparison starts with sites that compete for similar topics, customers, or search visibility. Large unrelated brands can provide inspiration, but they may not be fair benchmarks.
Compare categories, not just totals
An overall score is a summary. The useful insight comes from the category gaps underneath it. One competitor may lead because of content depth, another because of stronger trust signals, and another because of technical execution or external authority.
Turn gaps into actions
If a competitor has stronger content, study topic coverage and usefulness—not wording to copy. If it has better site architecture, examine how important pages are connected. If trust is stronger, look for clear publisher identity, policies, contact information, and consistent branding.

Do not add opportunity numbers together blindly
SEO signals can overlap. Fixing one issue may influence several categories at once, while some gaps describe the same underlying weakness from different angles. Treat opportunity values as prioritization aids rather than guaranteed point gains.
